Chrysalis: A Digital Fashion Show

Synopsis

This project is a short, animated film of a digital catwalk runway show, displaying the evolution of graphical capabilities and style choices through the years. Starting from the 1950s, evolving by decade until the 2010s, it will feature a mix of formats between 2D & 3D visuals. The film is split into two segments - the first half will be 2D animation, gradually transitioning between styles, developing from hand-drawn to pixel art, whilst the second half of the show will feature static, posed 3D character models using camera techniques to provide movement.

What motivated you to develop/create this project?

I have been surrounded by traditional art growing up as well as having both my parents work in fashion textiles, it has been a primary source of my creative inspiration as I have developed as an artist. However, i have loved playing video games ever since my older brother first bought Halo: Reach. I wanted to take the opportunity to show my appreciation for the beauty of both mediums and to also show where I have come from as an artist and where I am going in the future.

What has been a highlight of your time at Abertay?

The ability and opportunities provided to explore different styles and specialties, and figure out what kind of artist I would like to become after graduating.

What are your hopes and future ambitions for after graduation?

To take any opportunity available to develop my ability and learn what the professional industry has to offer. whilst also continuously developing my portfolio and freelance opportunities.
