Comparing Hand Tracking and Motion Controllers in small object manipulation

Synopsis

The project aims to compare hand tracking and motion controllers in the task of small object manipulation in virtual environments in terms of usability and user preference. This is achieved by presenting a series of tasks participants have to complete during which collecting anonymised data, and after which presenting a usability study. Tasks included are: positioning objects, sorting objects, stacking cubes, and navigating an object around a course.

What motivated you to develop/create this project?

I have always been amazed by virtual reality and the possibilities it provides, so that when I was given the opportunity to explore a new way of interacting with the medium I was instantly excited and interested in pursuing it.

What has been a highlight of your time at Abertay?

The friends made along the journey.

What are your hopes and future ambitions for after graduation?

I hope to enter the games industry and have an eventful career.
