Split Punk Revolution

Split Punk Revolution is a 3D rhythm game that uses a DJ mixing table instead of a traditional game controller. In the game, you are tasked with hitting notes by spinning the jog wheel of your mixing table and pressing buttons accordingly to achieve the highest score possible. The game has a charming early 2000s SEGA art style, and combines gameplay with the essence of DJing.

What motivated you to develop/create this project?

After my third year professional project (which was developed to be controlled and played on a mobile phone) I was determined to explore other alternative methods of playing games - and how non traditional controllers can be used to enhance the player's experience when playing games. Having a love for music, I wanted to use my DJ mixing deck to create a game that encapsulates the experience of DJing - whilst also creating a controller experience that is entirely unique to the controller.

What has been a highlight of your time at Abertay?

My highlight at Abertay had to be Dare Academy. Working together with a team to create a project that we were able to display at EGX was an amazing experience, and the team and I were proud to have been involved with creating Partners in Slime.

What are your hopes and future ambitions for after graduation?

I would love to pursue my interests in indie games - to either join a games studio or create my own projects following graduation.
