An evaluation of player modelling using an algorithm to enhance player satisfaction in loot-based games

Current randomised loot reward systems can have a negative effect on the player experience often with people branding themselves as unlucky and forcing them to spend more time playing a game out of necessity for a new item rather than enjoyment; there must be other ways of using these systems to benefit the player instead. This project aims to create a randomised loot system that takes in data on the player's performance to then reward the player with an item it thinks they will enjoy using and compare results with a regular randomised system to see which is favoured more.

What motivated you to develop/create this project?

My own and friends' experience with randomised loot systems and receiving items that would never really fit the way we would play and just end up being binned at the next available moment.

What has been a highlight of your time at Abertay?

DES310 group project and taking it down to the London Comic Con with Dare Academy.

What are your hopes and future ambitions for after graduation?

Hoping that I can get myself into gameplay mechanics, as my experience working together with designers and artists to create something amazing for players to enjoy has swayed me to finding this role.
