Silent Feuds

Silent Feuds is a project focusing on non-verbal 3D animated character performance. The aim of this project is to create three short animations using two different 3D character rigs to research non-verbal techniques used in cartoon and hyperrealism animation styles and to explore the effect of character performance. The finalised animations are evaluated to understand why each technique remains unique to each style.

Techniques deployed in non-verbal cartoon and hyperrealism include exaggerated acting, facial expression, unrealistic movement of the physical body, camera angles, non-diegetic and diegetic music and dramatic violence, all of which contribute to effective acting and performance.

Silent Feuds

Silent Feuds is a 3D animated project focusing on animating with no dialogue in the styles of cartoon and hyperrealism to evaluate character performance.

Motivation

I have always appreciated animated films that have the ability to tell a story completely without dialogue which is why I explored techniques used in animation that make character performance successful. I was motivated to create these animations to challenge my skills as an animator to produce two completely different styles. I also love animations that can make you laugh.
