Genre Splicing

My project will explore the definitions of genre to find the best definition for my project then I will explore the concept genre splicing and ways that could be viable to implement it within a literature review. I will then take a deep dive into how to genre splice and its effects in a case study looking at specific games that utilised genre splicing. Finally I will apply what I have learned in the form of a game to try and implement genre splicing to achieve a specific outcome to explore my prior research, assumptions and frameworks ultimately contributing to a greater understanding of the concept.

What motivated you to develop/create this project?

I had originally wanted to study how randomness existed across genre. This led me down a rabbit hole of conecpts and theories which brought me to genre splicing which seemed really interesting. I looked more into the theory which looked interesting and understudied, presenting an interesting opportunity to pursue.

What has been a highlight of your time at Abertay?

The Abertay tabletop society.

What are your hopes and future ambitions for after graduation?

I hope to find a job as a technical designer.
