Designing for the creation of satirical intent.

The piece presents different political issues and scandals through a series of satirical vignette mini-games. It aims to explore the interaction between narrative and gameplay and the opportunities this produces for the creation of satire. Through practice-based research and theory, it will explore different approaches to comedy, examine the roles of narrative and gameplay, how to address comedic timing when considering player agency, and bridge the gap between narrative and gameplay.

What motivated you to develop/create this project?

I wanted to expand upon an existing visual project exploring the use of spin in politics, which allowed me to dig into writing dialogue. However, I was really eager to develop the game's interactivity and get the player more actively involved through actions. Finally, the political landscape in the last couple of months has been worrying, to say the least. There's a lot of uncertainty and things going backwards, and I think it's essential to highlight these issues.

What has been a highlight of your time at Abertay?

There have been many highlights throughout my time at Abertay. Winning Dare Academy 2024 and showcasing at EGX was a fantastic experience to be a part of. Furthermore, I also got the opportunity to showcase my work at a Dundee Women's Aid event. This was a huge personal highlight as it made me really see the power of games and how we can share our experiences. Most of all, it has been the friends I've made throughout university.

What are your hopes and future ambitions for after graduation?

I would love to do more work with charities and pursue a master's degree. Ultimately, I want to explore the vast creative opportunities that games and interactive media provide and push my own creativity.
