Resurrecting the Super Dreadnought: HMS Warspite

History is important and crucial to learning and understanding past human activity. The best way to learn about our past can usually be attributed to primary historical artefacts. However, these sources can be lost or destroyed by natural events and human interference. In my project, I propose an alternative solution that could help preserve artefacts, even after destruction. This can be done by digitally preserving them as models, in a similar way to how we prepare models for video games. I decided to recreate a digital representation of a scrapped Super Dreadnought, the HMS Warspite. This ship participated in both world wars - her service spanning 30 years - until she was unceremoniously scrapped in an effort to raise funds for a post-war Britain. To accurately recreate the HMS Warspite, I used primary historical documentation via blueprints and photographs from the time, as well as secondary sources of other warships that already exist in digital media, such as World of Warships and War Thunder.

Project Motivation

I've always had an interest in history and thought it would be a great idea to combine that with my passion for game design, specifically modelling and animation.
