Cyber 9/12 Strategy Challenge

Now entering its third year in Scotland, the Cyber 9/12 Strategy Challenge is a one-of-a-kind cyber competition designed to provide students from across academic disciplines with a deeper understanding of the policy and strategy challenges associated with the management of trade-offs during a cyber crisis.

Part interactive learning experience and part competitive scenario exercise, teams of four competitors take on the role of senior advisors to respond to a realistic, evolving cyber crisis.

Competitors will analyse the threat it poses to national, international, and private-sector interests, and provide recommendations on the best course of action to mitigate the crisis.

Get involved!

Through the competition, students have the unique opportunity to interact with expert mentors and high-level cyber professionals while developing valuable skills in policy analysis and presentation.

Not a student? We're on the lookout for judges, coaches, and ambassadors.

Cyber 9/12 judges play the role of senior government officials. As a judge, you’ll be asked to hear competing student teams deliver a briefing and provide students with feedback as they respond to a realistic cyber crisis scenario. Judges are not required to commit to judge for the entire day or competition but can commit to small slots of time as their schedule permits

Become an Ambassador

Cyber 9/12 Scotland ambassadors play an important role in helping us organise the competition.

As an ambassador, you will be a point of contact for information on the competition. You'll promote Cyber 9/12 to students and be a point of contact between the event organisers and your university or college.

An example of who can be an ambassador includes, but is not limited to:

  • A college or university lecturer or staff member.
  • A member of a university or college careers service.
  • A member of a student’s association at a college or university.
  • A member of a society at a college or university.

Coach a team

Teams are encouraged to have a coach, but it is not mandatory.

As a coach, you'll help guide and mentor a team of students through the competition. You can expect to guide students on the way they address a brief, how they present themselves, and how to coordinate themselves as a team.

A coach should be a person with experience in management, policy, teamworking, cyber security, or managing trade-offs. An example of a coach could be a college or university lecturer, or a professional within a relevant industry.
