Interactive Adaptations

A game created using Bitsy which adapts some of the themes of morality embodied by the character Javert from Victor Hugo’s Les Misérables.

The project aimed to investigate how non-interactive media e.g. books, can be translated into fitting interactive game mechanics that support the themes of the original source material. It was carried out to demonstrate the strengths and weaknesses of interactive transmedia adaptations, and to assist developers in creating future adaptation projects.

Interactive Adaptations

An interactive adaptation of Javert’s character themes from Les Misérables using Bitsy.

Motivation

Creating games based on pre-existing Intellectual Properties is something designers do regularly. I wanted to experiment with how this new interactivity could help highlight and support the strengths of a pre-existing work.
