Immersion and Environmental Storytelling in 3D Game Environments

“Immersion and Environmental Storytelling in 3D Game Environments” is a 2021 Digital Graduate Show project by Joseph Phillpot, a Computer Arts student at Abertay University.

Synopsis

This project is a 3D game ready environment displayed in Unreal Engine 4, focussing specifically on creating an immersive environment with an aspect of environmental storytelling and narrative. The environment piece has been created from scratch using industry-standard workflows and techniques to create a realistic look. The environment itself is set within the Viking era and explores many different ideas based around living at this time. With environmental storytelling being a key part of any environment and this one especially, I focussed on creating assets with interest and incorporating as much authenticity as I could to show a Viking house isolated within a snowy forest landscape.
