Player Intuition In Video Games

"Player Intuition In Video Games" is a 2022 Digital Graduate Show project by Elizabet Ivanova Tyaneva, a Games Design and Production student at Abertay University.

Synopsis

The project aims to explore and analyse how intuitive theories and methods can be interpreted and applied to game design practices. It is all about intuition and how it is applied in video games. It examines what causes the player to use their intuitive thinking while playing a game. It explores intuitive methods which subconsciously affect one’s user experience within the first-person shooter genre. The practice for this project is understanding how to improve the emotional accessibility in games from this genre for sensitive audiences who experience discomfort while playing. This is displayed through a unique game demo of a dark-themed RPG with shooter elements influenced by the mentioned research.

Project Motivation

Something that motivated me to develop this project was my love for games and interest in intuitive game design. I was determined to design gameplay suitable for players who experience discomfort while playing adrenaline-packed games like shooters as I am part of that audience as well. I was curious to see what intuitive methods can be applied to the design in order to tackle this topic.
