Abstract 45:
Professor Jim Moir

Jim Moir

On Wednesday 27 March 2024, Jim Moir, Professor of Language and Professional Communication, delivered a lecture titled: "War of Words: How AI is missing the point on the power of language"

In his talk, Professor Moir explored how conversation and discourse analysis shape our personal and professional spheres. Covering such topics as how nursing students talk about their career choices and decisions about reporting poor care, through to interactions in medical consultations and police-suspect interviews, and on to examining the nature of the words used in professional reports on equality, diversity, and inclusion issues, this wide-ranging lecture shed new light on how we communicate and interact.
