Call for Expressions of Interest
Abertay University
School of Design and Informatics
Deadline: 4pm, Friday 26 April 2019
The School of Design and Informatics (SDI) of Abertay University, Dundee, invites artists/architects and designers to submit Expressions of Interest (EOI) to create a permanent indoor public artwork for a new stairwell/atrium as part of the transformed SDI facilities in the Kydd Building on the campus of Abertay University. The successful artist will have their work featured in the new atrium between the ground floor and the second floor as created by a new, open stairwell connecting the two levels. Professional Scotland-based artists and artist-led teams are invited to submit Expressions of Interest (EOI) by 4pm, Friday 26 April, 2019.
An artwork proposal is not required at this time. This is a two-stage process.
During stage one of the competition, applicants will be reviewed on the basis of the merit of past work, professional qualifications and experience. Refer to submission details in the EOI document. In stage two shortlisted artists will be required to submit an artwork concept proposal. Short listed artists will be paid an artist fee of £1000 to develop their proposals. The selected artist will then enter a contract with Abertay University for the artwork creation and installation phase of the project.
The successful artist will have a maximum budget of £27,000. This is the total amount available for all related expenses of this commissioned art project including but not limited to: artist fees, all applicable taxes, detailed renderings, materials, site preparation, technical consultations and approvals or other expertise as required, fabrication, installation, insurance, equipment, permit fees, travel to meetings and to the site, and an artist statement for the completed work.
The final proposal will be selected by a committee made up of visual arts professionals, community representatives and Abertay staff with final approval made by the Dean of SDI. The commission will be awarded in June 2019, design and fabrication of the work in July/August to be unveiled when the transformed SDI facilities open in September 2019.
Abertay University is transforming the former “White Space” of the School of Design and Informatics into a multi-use facility for our various programs of study and research.
