What to expect at an Online Open Day

Here's what we have lined up for you, and don't forget you can join us with your parent, guardian or friends - everyone is welcome.

Expect it to be jam-packed, fun and full-on. There's lots to do and see so find out more about how to prepare

If that wasn’t enough, try to find out more about Dundee. The V&A Museum of Design is the crown in the £1 billion Waterfront development, the independent shops, pubs and restaurants in Dundee’s buzzy West End and blue flag Broughty Ferry beach (complete with resident dolphins!) on our doorstep.

So pop the date in your diary, and we look forward to 'seeing' you on 29 September or 30 October.

FAQs - Your Online Open Day questions answered

I’m not sure what I want to study?

Don’t worry if you’re thinking that could be anything from law to engineering and everything in between. For many people, Open Days are about narrowing down what you want to study. That’s why going to course sessions is valuable.

If you find yourself drifting off, it’s not our lecturers, it’s more than likely just not the right course for you. You’ll get a feel for what subject is right for you by speaking to our tutors and current students who have been there, done it and got the T-shirt.

We do ask you to choose a subject when you book a place for Online Open Day but you won’t be held to it on the day.

Should I come alone, bring my parents or a friend?

It’s entirely up to you.

Lots of parents, guardians or carers are understandably interested and want to be involved. Lots of students attend with family or a friend, and just as many come alone.

Do I have to be intending to join University next year?

No, you don’t.

Lots of people have just started Year 5 or 6 at school. Others are studying an HNC or HND and thinking of progressing to University. We also get younger school students and plenty of mature students too.

It’s a good mix and everyone is welcome.

Will it take all day?

Our Online Open Days will run from 5pm-8pm on Wednesday 29 September and from 10am-12pm on Saturday 30 October.

Remember, however, that most of the content will be available online for you to revisit afterwards.

Do I have to come to an Online Open Day?

No-one’s going to force you but we’ve been doing this long enough to know attending is a really good idea.

If you’re not sure which subject area or which course to study, speaking to tutors and current students will help you narrow down your choices.

And if you do know what you want to study, then coming along gives you a chance to see whether or not Abertay is a good fit for you - whether you can picture yourself fitting in and what your inner voice is telling you.

What about COVID 19?

We understand how strange the last 18 months have been for everyone, and that's why our 2021 Open Day is happening online.

If you want to find out about how we're handling the Coronavirus situation, there's a website section all about it.

The Programme

We're busy finalising activities, which will be published here closer to the day.

Keep an eye on the Undergraduate Online Open Day page as we'll keep it updated.

Accommodation - about our Rooms and Residences

If you're new to Dundee, you're a top priority for getting a room in our University accommodation for your first year of study.

We need to know you’ll definitely be studying with us before we offer you a place so if you make Abertay your ‘firm’ choice you can apply.

Check out our Accommodation section to give yourself a flavour of it.

We also have a page about specific accommodation arrangements due to COVID-19, as well as some useful accommodation FAQs.
