This is one of the specialist routes within the sports portfolio. You’ll make your choice of specialist route at the end of stage two of the BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise programme.
The whole experience was really good. It’s turned me into a person who wants to do a little bit of everything. The way that university was structured was a good basis for that. I was juggling placements and work and doing course work. That’s translated into me having three jobs and being busy all the time!
- Tatenda Nyatsanza, Strength and Conditioning Graduate
Strength and Conditioning is an integral component for both amateur and professional sport organisations. You’ll cover biomechanics as well as the theory and practice of sport coaching, including how to create long-term training programmes across a diverse range of sports.
This is a highly practical course. You’ll learn through a mixture of lectures, practical lab classes, seminars/tutorials and independent study. The lab classes show you scientific techniques first hand, and only approximately 15% of the overall mark is made up of exams. Throughout you learn how to link theory with practice, helping you develop skills highly valued by employers.
