Bilgi is a privately owned university in Istanbul. The city straddles the Bosphorus strait which separates Europe and Asia. The Silahtarağa campus is largest of the three university campuses, spreading over an area of 118,000 m² (30 acres approx.). It houses the SantralIstanbul, an arts and culture complex consisting of an energy museum, an amphitheatre, concert halls and a public library. It now hosts more than 1,000 conferences, festivals and other scientific and social events annually, and was formerly the first power station of the Ottoman Empire. The city of Istanbul was named European capital of culture in 2010. The city had around 12.56 million foreign visitors in 2015, making it then, the world’s 5th most popular tourist destination.
