Biography

Professor Schaschke is Head of the School of Science, Engineering and Technology. He has responsibility for providing strategic direction across the three Divisions of Natural and Built Envirnoment, Science, and Food and Drink. He is a chemical engineer and has published widely.

Professor Schaschke currently provides lectures on the following programmes:

FOD303 Food Processing

FOD407 Project Research Methods

EEM Civil Engineering Placement

He also teaches on the European Federation of Chemical Engineering Summer School held annually in Europe.

He has previously taught various on undergraduate and postgraduate engineering modules and has previously won teaching awards including nomination for Teacher of Year (2013) by USSA.

As a chemical engineer, my principal area of research is high pressure processing. This is an area of increasing world-wide interest impacting on many fields of science and engineering and in particular the oil and gas industry. My work has focused on the influence of extreme pressure (thousands of times greater than atmospheric) on pressure-sensitive products and materials in terms of product and process development such as mineral and biodiesels. My laboratory has specialist equipment for measuring the thermophysical properties of fluids. The equipment is unique and very few such devices exist elsewhere in the world. In recognition of my achievements through publications etc, I was appointed to join the European Federation of Chemical Engineering (EFCE) Working Party on High Pressure Technology. This organises and manages a number of related activities including the Intensive Socrates Diploma on High Pressure as well as international conferences and symposia of which I am a member of organizing committees.
