I’m a BACP Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist and a lecturer in Counselling and Psychotherapy. I’m also the author of Counselling skills: a practical guide for counsellors and helping professionals published by Open University Press.
My academic background is psychology. I graduated from the University of Wolverhampton with BA (Hons) in Psychology in 1984. I also hold an MSc in Applications of Psychology, an MSc in Transactional Analysis Counselling and a Diploma in Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy.
From a research perspective, my work focuses on the counselling process and the outcome of counselling for people with long-term health conditions. I’m also interested in the experiences of therapy from the perspective of the client.
I have published extensively on the effectiveness of counselling, pluralistic counselling and psychotherapy and counselling for long term health conditions.
I’m also an accredited trainer with Counselling and Psychotherapy in Scotland (COSCA).
