Division of Psychology

Head of Division: Clare Cunningham

Staff in the Division of Psychology offer a vibrant and quality learning experience to our students.

We engage in high quality research, as evidenced by our REF2014 submission where we were judged the best modern university for Psychology research. All our staff are research active and we offer opportunities throughout our programmes for students to become involved as part of the curriculum and in extracurricular schemes and events. We aim to develop transferable research and analysis skills in all our graduates.

The Division of Psychology offers:

Taught courses offered by the Division of Psychology are accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS) making our graduates eligible for Graduate Basis for Chartership from the BPS, an essential requirement for entry to postgraduate training for professional practice. The Division of Psychology also contributes to the Social Science degree and offers modules to students in other disciplines with an interest in understanding the human mind.

We have in excess of 200 undergraduates enrolled on our five British Psychological Society (BPS) accredited degrees, and a significant number of students studying psychology as a minor part of other degrees.

Since its formation in 1995, the Division of Psychology has grown to become one of the largest and most successful divisions at Abertay. Throughout expansion, we have maintained our belief that universities should be a welcoming place to study and pride ourselves on the commitment of our academics to developing a sense of community in our students and including students as partners in our teaching and research.

We were recently commended by our accrediting body, the BPS, for creating a vibrant academic community that students clearly felt part of, as well as for innovation in assessments and timely feedback, cross disciplinary working and range of opportunities for engaging with research.

Our aim is to provide a friendly, supportive, professional, and stimulating learning environment to all our students, where academic staff are accessible and available to engage with students in debate and discussion as peers in a teaching context and beyond.

Psychology is a fascinating area of study and Abertay is a welcoming and stimulating place to study it.
