Canstruction® Jr

One can make a difference.

Imagine a Scottish-themed construction made almost entirely out of food cans ... what would you build?

The Forth Rail Bridge?

Glenfinnan Viaduct?

Edinburgh Castle?

Nessie?

When it comes to Canstruction® Jr, the only limit is your imagination.

What is Canstruction® Jr?

Canstruction® Jr is a charitable competition where school pupils incorporate design and engineering principles to conceptualise and build giant structures made almost entirely out of full cans of food.

Your school will raise funds to buy the food cans required to make your construction. How the money is raised is entirely up to you!

At the end of the exhibition, all of the food cans you use to build your structure will be donated to Dundee Foodbank

Taking part in Canstruction® Jr

Canstruction® Jr provides an innovative and fun tool to teach basic and advanced Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) practices and introduces young people to the design, architecture and engineering fields.Dundee Foodbank and Canstruction logos

By taking part in Canstruction® Jr, you and your school can help Dundee Foodbank provide nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people referred to them in crisis.

Canstruction® Jr: The Competition

Secondary school pupils in years 4 - 6 will work in small groups and conceptually design a Scottish-themed structure.

Following a brief issued by Abertay's Engineering experts, submissions will be shortlisted and the finalists invited to Abertay University in Dundee to build their structures.

Teams will be judged on their creativity and build quality. The winning team will be decided by an Abertay judging panel.
