Research Projects

The PHATS team are a group of scientists working together to understand the effects of environmental pollutants on fat tissue function. We are based at Abertay University and the Sea Mammal Research Unit at University of St Andrews, with collaborators at Plymouth University, Université de Liège and Université Catholique de Louvain in Belgium.

Our study organisms are seals, because they have a high body fat content and accumulate high levels of fat soluble pollutants in their blubber, which makes them vulnerable to contaminant effects on fat. We are currently funded by the Natural Environment Research Council.
