Ailsa Howie

BSc (Hons) Civil Engineering

Graduate profile

Firstly, you’re graduating, congratulations! How do you feel to be at the end of your Abertay journey?

Excited and nervous. I’ve really enjoyed it and while I’m excited about graduating it’s a wee bit nerve-racking to be entering the big bad world of work. At the same time though, I’m really looking forward to it.

What were the highlights of your time at Abertay?

The experience overall has been absolutely fantastic, but the highlight overall? It would have to be my Civil Engineering class. The students and lecturers have been brilliant – absolutely spot on. Overall I’ve had a fantastic time.

So the staff had an impact on you?

Absolutely. Their input and support was crucial, without it the course would have been a lot more difficult.

What’s next for you?

I did a placement with Robertson Construction in third year, and on the back of that they offered me a full-time job. I’m working there now, so the turnaround from being a full-time student to being a full-time staff member has been really quick.

As you can probably tell the placement was really important for me, absolutely key.
