The Northwood Charitable Trust has generously supported Abertay University over a number of years. Through discussion with the Trust on their preferred areas of assistance, this has resulted in several PhD studentships in systems approaches to cancer.
This important research develops interactive, games-based narratives to support cancer patient journeys and patient-clinician dialogue. It is hoped that the research will increase cancer patients’ confidence when it comes to making decisions about complex treatment options and create greater awareness of the challenges faced by cancer patients in the course of their treatment.
The Trust visited Abertay to see the project first hand and talk to students involved in creating the programmes.
The grant from The Northwood Charitable Trust has also been invaluable in leveraging further support from Macmillan Trust towards the research and in securing Abertay’s position as a lead partner in the Tay Cities Deal bid.
The Northwood Charitable Trust has long been associated with medical innovation in Dundee. We are delighted to support the pioneering and important cancer research work that Abertay University has been undertaking and which will make a difference to so many.
