How important was your Abertay degree in helping you pursue your career?

Extremely important! Without it, I would have had a major disadvantage against other candidates in the application and interview process for the job I have now. My degree has opened up a lot of opportunities for me.

What does your current job involve?

My current job title is Specifications Officer and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point Team Leader at OP Chocolate Ltd, which is based in South Wales. My roles vary and include ensuring that the products manufactured meet customer and legal requirements, working with the New Product Development team to create finished products and product recipes and testing out new manufacturing methods.

I would not have achieved a first class degree without the lovely staff who taught me and made me feel confident that I could do it.

What is your lasting impression of Abertay and Dundee?

Dundee is a small but great city where the people are friendly and welcoming. As for Abertay, I received amazing support throughout my 4 years being a student, but the lasting impression for me was the support I received when I finally got diagnosed with Dyslexia and Dyscalculia in my third year. I would not have achieved a first class degree without the lovely staff who taught me and made me feel confident that I could do it, despite my learning difficulties. I really cannot thank them all enough.

Do you have any advice for students?

Stop doubting yourself, work hard and make it happen. If you can’t find a way, then create a new one.
