How important was your Abertay degree in helping you pursue your career?

My time at Abertay has definitely had a great impact on my career. I knew from a young age that I wanted to make games and I feel like I had a fantastic opportunity to take control of my own education, learn the necessary skills and satisfy my curiosity at Abertay.

I had a number of experiences as a student that have directly helped me to build my abilities and helped me make the connections I needed to join the industry. Studying at Abertay has definitely been fundamental in helping me grow into the person I am today.

What does you current job involve?

I'm currently a Game Engine Programmer, which involves combining creativity, logical problem solving and teamwork to develop the underlying systems that form the backbone of video games. It’s challenging and dynamic, where no two tasks are the same, and I’m inspired by the incredibly talented people I get to work with every day.

What was your most memorable moment as a student?

I honestly don’t think I could pick a single one. I have so many amazing memories of organising and preparing for shows and competitions as the captain of the University Dance Team, welcoming new and prospective students to campus as a Student Ambassador or even just the excitement of getting the opportunity to learn about something I’m really passionate about.

I guess if I had to pick one particular memory it would be our third year group projects, where we got the chance to work on an industry brief in cross-disciplinary teams and make, what felt like, our first “real” game project. It was a great experience to work with others, learn better communication and project management skills as well as see a project come to life with the help of many different talents.
