What is the AHEAD programme?

The AHEAD programme is a free part-time evening course. It runs two evenings a week on a Monday and Wednesday (6.30pm-9pm) from September-May. It guarantees you a place on many Abertay undergraduate degrees upon successful completion.

The AHEAD programme is designed to re-introduce you to education. It provides you with the core academic and study skills that will enable you to join and complete a degree at Abertay.

In the first semester, you’ll study one module: Skills for Study in Higher Education. It’s designed to strengthen your study skills in key areas, including:

  • Literacy
  • Communication
  • IT
  • Numeracy

In the second semester, you’ll study two subject-based modules. The modules will be directly linked to the degree path you’d like to follow. These modules are:

  • Access to Computing
  • Access to Science and Technology
  • Access to Health and Sport Science
  • Access to Business
  • Access to Social Science

Eligibility

To be eligible for AHEAD, you need to have been out of formal education for three years or longer. You must also meet the Scottish Funding Council (SFC) eligibility criteria. But don’t worry, we’ll help you out with any questions you may have about your SFC entitlement.
