Meet the Alumni & Development Office

7 July 2014

From left: Carol Ann Smith, Head of Alumni & Development; Elaine Swadel, Database & Prospect Research Administrator; Nazhat Ahmed, Development Officer and Eleanor MacKeddie, Alumni Relations Officer.

The recently established Alumni & Development Office manages and supports relationships with alumni (former students), trusts, foundations, companies and other friends of the University.

We aim to provide meaningful and creative initiatives to maintain life-long relationships with our alumni and friends, as well as securing support and donations to help advance the University.

Our newest member of the team Nazhat Ahmed joined us from the University of Brighton in May as Development Officer.

The office manages the database of our alumni - more than 25,000 former students across the UK and overseas. To ensure we stay in touch it’s important for alumni and friends to update their details.

We aim to provide services, benefits and opportunities that will enhance the personal and professional development of our alumni and student community. Our recent Student Engagement and Philanthropy Day was a great way to involve our students and to demonstrate the benefits of giving back. You can see all the photos of happy, smiling staff and students on our Facebook photo album.

Our alumni community, both in the UK and internationally, maintain contact with Abertay through social, professional and educational activities, careers advice, events, networking, advocacy and philanthropic support.

We provide volunteering opportunities for our graduates too – either to assist with events, recruitment, or to be part of our mentoring programme by mentoring our third year students.

There are numerous ways to stay involved and in touch through LinkedIn, Twitter or email

We look forward to staying in touch with our alumni, friends and supporters and of course, our new graduates – the class of 2014!
