Student business innovation week opens

A week-long innovation event, aimed at giving students realistic insight into the business challenges faced by major companies, opens today (Friday 28 February) at Abertay University.
The ‘Innovation Co-creation: Working Together for Global Growth’ event will see Abertay’s business students taking part in simulation challenges, set by Atlas Copco, Heineken, Scotherbs, Scottish Enterprise, Shackleton Technologies, Stoneridge and Tokheim.
Students will be mentored in key sectors for the Scottish economy including business innovation, the digital economy, food and drink, modern manufacturing, and oil and gas. The aim is to improve the students’ practical skills – and boost Scotland’s innovation potential.
Charlie Malone, event leader from Abertay University’s Dundee Business School, said: “Innovation is absolutely central to our economic future, and giving students access to leading companies and presenting them with realistic, tough challenges to resolve is an incredible practical boost to their education.
“By bringing business experts from major companies like Heineken, Stoneridge and Tokheim into Abertay University to work directly with students, we’re challenging these future business leaders to think about how to innovate – and how to solve the complex problems facing companies and the economy.”
Professor Sabine Hotho, Head of Dundee Business School, said: “By bringing leading companies into our classroom we’re encouraging these experts and our students to develop solutions that drive business innovation and growth, in Scotland and internationally.”
Over the week, all postgraduate teaching in Dundee Business School is being replaced with a series of morning and afternoon workshops, each led by an industry mentor.
