Hannah Drummond - BA Computer Game Design and Production Management, 2014
How important was your Abertay degree in helping you to pursue your career?

My degree has given me a competitive edge when pursuing a career in the games industry. The practical nature of the course facilitates the development of skills in a wide range of areas including production methods, 3D modelling, C++ programming, and interaction design. As my area of interest is in production, the practical projects throughout my time at Abertay allowed me to build leadership abilities in a team setting, which is a vital attribute for any producer in the games industry. I am now studying for an MScR in Digital Media and Culture and intend to use my skills from Abertay and the games industry to pursue a career in multi-platform media production.

What is your most memorable moment as a student?

There are a lot to choose from! Reaching the semi-finals of the Make Something Unreal competition - with a team of fellow students - was particularly memorable as it was my first time acting in the role of producer. Being awarded the Best Dissertation Award was also a wonderful moment, which wouldn't have been possible without the ongoing encouragement of the lecturers throughout my final year.

What is your lasting impression of Abertay and Dundee?

Abertay is a fantastic university with a friendly atmosphere and community. The lecturers are great - they go above and beyond to ensure each student has the support and encouragement they require to become successful professionals in the industry. Dundee as a city is evolving rapidly, becoming one of Scotland's main hubs for digital creativity, which is really exciting.
