Abertay hosts the UK's first ever university Centre for Excellence in Computer Games Education and is recognised as a world leader in computer games and interactive media courses. It has been at the forefront of games education and research for over a decade.
The Centre for Excellence forms the core of the new Institute for Arts, Media and Computer Games at Abertay. The Institute expands the range of graduates from Abertay able to make immediate commercial impact, and to drive the future success of the computer games and interactive industries within the national and global economies.
The courses are intensive 12 month, cross-disciplinary Masters programmes, open to all appropriately qualified graduates, and based on the internationally renowned Dare to be Digital model. The programmes are housed in a purpose-designed, professional studio environment, and will produce 40 high-calibre, industry-ready graduates each year.
The courses focus on real-world prototyping of innovative, interactive digital products and graduates work in teams comprising of programmers, artists, developers and production managers. The teams are mentored by high quality academic and industry practitioners. The courses aim to produce highly skilled leaders, strategists, and designers of the future.
The programmes will further build on Abertay's experience of embedding research practice within our creative learning environment, through White Space teaching, and addressing issues of technological convergence.
Past graduates from Abertay have gone on to work for leading animation companies such as Aardman and Disney, while others have set up their own companies with good success rates.
