Election Statement
Dr Annie Ingram

Dr Annie Ingram

As many of you may know, I have been a member of the Court of Abertay University since 2018, and the Vice Chair since 2020. I have experience of governance in both large and small organisations and within and between NHS Boards and as a member of the Court of Abertay University.

I have a deep understanding of the role of Court members in defining the strategy and direction of the University and ensuring good governance. My election as Chair would be important to the stability of the University as we progress through very challenging times, both in attracting students and maximising our funding.

I believe that as a university we have a responsibility to improve society by widening access to those who would not otherwise have considered University and supporting people to achieve their potential. Abertay’s approach to widening access, embedding education, practice and research within business and our communities is sector leading and I am proud to work in partnership with you on that journey.

I spent most of my career in the NHS, working as an HR professional, planning and managing clinical services, before progressing to Executive level, where I contributed, directly and indirectly, to the improvement of services for the people of Scotland, locally, regionally, and nationally.

I understand the importance of valuing diversity and supporting inclusion. In my career, I have worked with many groups to ensure that all voices were included in planning services, including young people, those with mental illness, multicultural backgrounds and people living in remote areas. My experience is transferable and I think particularly important within a university where student achievement, educational attainment, research delivery and good staff relations are key to success.

I am a people person. Universities are people places, led by people, for people and their core mission is to transform lives. Recognising the importance of education, I have progressed my education to a post graduate level and my career is evidence that with the right encouragement and access to learning, one can achieve significant success. Having undertaken both an LLM and then a PhD by research, I achieved academically in a way that I never believed possible. That is the power of a university to transform lives.

I would warmly welcome the opportunity to be your Chair of Court and use my experience, skills and talents to give back to Abertay, supporting the Principal, her team, the staff across all disciplines and our student body to be the best University that we can be.
