Horror Props - Escape Rex Manor Synopsis
For this project I wanted to explore the relationship between a low poly aesthetic and material textures. The art direction was envisioned by the lead artist on the project Gavin Wood, who was inspired by a macabre reinterpretation of the work by Scottish architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh. The crooked sharp geometries are supposed to evoke a sense of horrific unease, while the dirty and grimy textures inspire disgust in the player. This was part of the horror comedy puzzle-adventure Escape Rex Manor. This furniture exists in the house of a solitary monster, and it reflects his personality. There is even a reference to H.P. Lovecraft’s Necronomicon if you can spot it.
The models were created in Maya and Blender, while texturing was done in Substance Painter.
Motivation
I was motivated by my interest in 3D art and design as well as horror aesthetics.
