Student Association

student centre for HOS site

The association is a registered charity headed by a President, a Vice-President and six part-time executive officers. The aims of the association are:

  • To advance the education of its membership and students as a whole.
  • To represent the interests of its members and act as a channel of communication in dealings with the University and other bodies.
  • To protect and represent the welfare of its membership.
  • To promote, encourage and support members of societies and social and cultural activities.
  • To run the Student Association for the benefit of the members of the association.
  • The association shall practice the above aims and objectives independently of any political party, religious or other group.
  • These aims and objectives shall be practised without discrimination on grounds of age, race, gender, religion, creed, sexuality, disability or medical condition, except that action may be taken to promote equality of opportunity.

The association is run by students, elected by their peers, who have the best interests at heart for the students here at Abertay. Every student at Abertay is automatically a member of the Student Association by law, which is no bad thing.

The association prides itself on being there to help students when needed and also foreseeing issues that will affect students. Abertay has a friendly, welcoming history and here at the Student Association we feel we replicate that with our open-door policy and transparency. No matter how trivial you feel your situation is, the association will strive to help you through it and find a solution.

The sssociation also runs campaigns during the year. Some of our most successful ones to date have been the Carbon Academy, RAG, ‘UADSA says relax’, as well as continuing to improve the student experience here at Abertay. We also have fair trade status in the Student Centre and support the likes of ONE water, a bottled water company that ensures profits are used to help people in poverty-stricken areas.

Societies are a major influence in the life of a student and can really help you meet people with similar interests. We have a number of societies and if it’s not here, why not start one yourself? All you have to do is contact the Vice-President who will help you get one going. There is more information on our website about all our services so have a look today!
