Studying at Abertay

Law courses

Where will our courses in law take you?

Law courses – LLB

The LLB law course is accredited by the Law Society of Scotland and enables graduates, on successful completion of postgraduate training, to become solicitors. The course offers a wide grounding in legal issues for those seeking careers in other areas, such as private business, the media or politics.

Abertay has a number of partner universities in other EU countries and law students will have the option of spending one or two semesters studying abroad. We currently have partner institutions in Spain, France, Germany, Italy, Sweden and Finland.

Law courses – European Business Law

The other law course at Abertay is the European Business Law degree, which offers direct year 3 entry for students who have already completed two or more years' legal study. This course is particularly designed for EU students moving to the UK.

This law course focusses on European and commercial law, looking at the institutions of the European Union, the rights of free movement of people and goods across member states, and the implications of European integration and expansion. Specialist study on areas like competition law and environmental law is also offered.

Law courses – jobs

Law courses at Abertay offer many exciting and varied career opportunities. After a period of postgraduate professional training, graduates may be admitted to practise as solicitors or advocates.

Abertay law graduates may also pursue careers in business and commerce, the civil service, local government, or the police force. Abertay was rated the best modern university in Scotland for research in law in the UK Research Assessment Exercise 2008, so this course also opens up a range of postgraduate study options.
