Studying at Abertay

Forensic facilities

The forensic facilities at Abertay are unique

Split into two main staging areas Rankin House and the Bank of Scotland mock bank area gives our students the opportunity to solve real life crimes in a real life environment – one-of-a-kind facility in a university environment.

Our students are taught to be able to find, collect and record evidence that is likely to be found at a crime scene.

Students will be shown how to correctly package and label productions, collect, enhance and identify footwear impressions and tool mark impressions. Classify and identify fingerprints, bodily fluids, record a crime scene by sketches, search a room or scene effectively and record with photography.

Every contact leaves a trace…

Rankin House

A one bedroom flat which consists of living room, bedroom, bathroom and kitchen where the students learn the skills to become scenes of crime officers.  Such work involves photographing, recording and fingerprinting the scene in situ and recovering and recording evidence for forensic analysis in the appropriate packaging.
