The Division of Biotechnology and Forensic Sciences is responsible for the innovative design, development and delivery of courses in Forensic Science and Biotechnology.

The research work in the division contributes in a major way to the School of Contemporary Sciences in the areas of environmental science and technology. The research interests of the academic staff of the division are diverse and range from microbial physiology, environmental microbiology and technology, yeast biotechnology, environmental science, systems pathology and cancer research, to nanotechnology and atomic force microscopy.

Major strengths lie in areas that address specific environmental problems and mathematical modelling of biological systems and their interactions with the physico-chemical environment. The expertise of our staff is much sought after by professionals, and academic members of the division actively consult with major companies in the UK and internationally.

Research in the Division is closely connected with The Urban Water Technology Centre (UWTC) and The Scottish Institute for Biology Mathematics and Statistics (SIMBIOS).
