With a renewed focus on a comprehensive and varied programme of research, the School of Computing and Engineering Systems aims to influence the way we will live and work. Every member of the academic staff is actively involved in one of our four research themes:
Security is a key driver for all the research work carried out in CES. But not only security - useable security. Anyone can make a secure system, but making a secure system that is useable is a more difficult task. Here in CES we believe that security must be designed in from the start. Our research work includes gaining intelligence from data, ethical hacking to provide protection, biometrics, authentication of systems, and securing the critical energy grid infrastructure.

Welcome to the School of Computing and Engineering Systems (CES).
CES at Abertay is a very special and exciting place to study. We offer a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes that are widely recognised for their academic quality, innovation, and close ties to the industries in which our graduates work. We take our commitment to teaching very seriously and have placed the Abertay Graduate Attributes at the centre of our teaching activities. We are continually developing new and innovative methods for involving students in the design and enhancement of our taught programmes.
Our aim is to offer opportunities to acquire practical skills that are directly transferable to your future workplace. We work closely with local, national and international companies to ensure that our courses provide our students with all of the tools and skills to meet their existing and anticipated future employment needs.
We are also actively expanding our research. We are building on the world-class reputation of our research in security and intelligence to new domains including human-computer interaction, user-centred design and smart/sustainable technologies. These are very exciting developments for the School. We are committed to putting the user at the heart of the computing systems of the future.
Our research inspires and feeds directly into our teaching programmes, ensuring that all of our students benefit from exposure to the latest cutting-edge developments in research.
We are an ambitious School. Our goal is to become the leading School of our type in Scotland, equipping our students for the workplace of today and tomorrow and shaping the future of computing and engineering systems through our research.
