Dare to be Digital is a video game development competition for extremely talented students at universities and colleges of art, organised and run by the University of Abertay Dundee.
Teams of five students, a mix of artists, programmers and audio engineers, assemble at Abertay University for nine weeks to develop a prototype video game, receiving support and mentoring from industry professionals, as well as a stipend, team budget and free accommodation.
The competition has a truly international flavour, with teams coming from across the world.
At the end of the competition in August, the games are showcased at Dare ProtoPlay, a three-day video games festival in Dundee where the general public and games industry play and vote for the games.
An industry judging panel decide which three games will become the sole nominees for the BAFTA Ones to Watch award, which will be awarded to one of these teams at the BAFTA Video Games Awards in London.
Students who have gone through the Dare experience are highly sought after by industry and are working in a variety of positions in studios in the UK and overseas. Some former DAre contestants have also set up their own development studios.
