Why choose this course?
Business today is international. Businesses are connected around the globe with suppliers, customers, and competitors. To succeed, managers must be fast, responsive, and aware of the economic, cultural and political forces that shape their surroundings. And they need a management capability that is distinctly international in outlook. Our course provides you with the economic underpinning of the international environment today’s business organisations operate in. The course will also enable you to develop this mindset in a group of like-minded students equally eager to 'go places'. The course combines the exploration of the international business context from a mostly economic perspective and the development of those practical intercultural management skills you need to create impact. Project work allows you to develop special areas of interest, such as international markets, economic trends, particular management challenges or market and industry analyses.
The core economics modules focus on the contemporary challenges facing international business. You will examine issues concerning international trade and investment, economics integration and international development. The core management modules will introduce you to multinational strategy and you will develop the international communication skills and intercultural management skills that are required to drive your business agenda. You will also be able to develop your own research project, focusing either on the economic or business management aspect of a chosen topic. Throughout your studies you will work with Dundee Business School academics that bring their expertise in business, economics, industry and international management straight into the classroom.
During stage 3, you will study the following core modules - International Business Economics, Strategic Management, Managing across Cultures, Managerial Economics, International Trade Theory and Policy, Supply Chain Management, and International Economics and Management Project, plus one option module from either Organisations and Transformation, or Corporate Finance.
During stage 4, you will study the following core modules - The Global Economy, Multinational Corporate Strategy, Energy and Environmental Economics, International Management Skills and Challenges, and Innovation Economics, and your dissertation, plus one option module from either Heritage Management, International HRM, or Business Ethics and CSR.
