Intro

The University Certificate in English for Postgraduate Study is a full time programme for students who need to improve their skills in English before they start their postgraduate degree studies.

Content:
  • Language and communication skills in English (listening, speaking, reading and writing)
  • Study skills in English (listening to lectures, reading and taking notes, writing academic essays)
  • English for your subject area - Business, Computing, Science, MBA Studies
  • Key concepts in your subject area
The course runs from September - June, and in the second semester you will undertake a module in your degree subject and study alongside other Abertay students.

NOTE: Admission to a postgraduate degree course at the University of Abertay Dundee for students on this programme is conditional upon passing the examinations and assessed coursework. Some students may require extra English tuition before they are able to gain admission to the University.

What you study

University Certificate in English for Postgraduate Study
On this course you will improve your English language proficiency both for postgraduate study and for everyday life as a student in a UK Higher Education institution.

Semester 1 - (September - January) Language skills for communication, Study skills in English, the specialist language you need for your postgraduate degree subject.
Semester 2 - (February - May) Postgraduate study skills for preparing reports and assignments, Group assignments and tasks, Independent study practices and self-evaluation skills, specialist knowledge to prepare for your degree subject.

Entry routes

Entrance Requirements
Applicants must have EITHER a conditional offer on a postgraduate programme at the University of Abertay Dundee OR already hold the current entrance requirements for their chosen postgraduate programme.
