Intro
The English Language Preparation Programme (ELPP) is a full time programme for students who need to improve their skills in English before they start their degree studies.
Courses:
The Foundation Course - for students who wish to gain admission to undergraduate courses.
The Pre-MBA Course - for students who wish to gain admission to the MBA.
The Pre-MSc Course - for students who wish to gain admission to MSc courses in Computing, Science or Engineering.
Content: - Language and communication skills in English (listening, speaking, reading and writing)
- Study skills in English (listening to lectures, reading and taking notes, writing academic essays)
- English for your subject area - Business, Computing, Science, MBA Studies
- Key concepts in your subject area
The courses run from September - June, and in the second semester you will undertake a module in your degree subject and study alongside other Abertay students.
NOTE: Admission to a degree course at the University of Abertay Dundee for students on this programme is conditional upon passing the examinations and assessed coursework. Some students may require extra English tuition before they are able to gain admission to the University.
What you study
The Foundation Course
On the Foundation course you will improve your English language proficiency both for study and for everyday life as an undergraduate student in a UK Higher Education institution.
Semester 1 - (September - January) Language skills for communication, Introduction to study skills in English, the specialist language you need for your degree subject.
Semester 2 - (February - May) Skills for writing assignments, Preparation for examinations, Oral presentations, and specialist knowledge to prepare you for your degree subject.
The Pre-MBA Course
On the Pre-MBA course you will improve your English language proficiency both for postgraduate study and for everyday life as a student in a UK Higher Education institution. You will also develop your knowledge of the UK and European business environment through the Pre-MBA Studies component.
Semester 1 - (September - January) Language skills for communication, Study skills in English, the specialist language you need for a Business or Management degree, Introduction to Western concepts and approaches in business.
Semester 2 - (February - May) Postgraduate study skills for preparing written reports and assignments, Group assisgnments and tasks, specialist knowledge to prepare for your degree subject.
The Pre-MSc Course
On the Pre-MSc course you will improve your English language proficiency both for postgraduate study and for everyday life as a student in a UK Higher Education institution. You will also develop your knowledge of the specialist language and concepts you require for your degree subject.

Semester 2 - (February - May) Postgraduate study skills for preparing reports and assignments, Group assignments and tasks, Independent study practices and self-evaluation skills, specialist knowledge to prepare for your degree subject.

Entrance Requirements for the English Foundation course
Students applying for entry to our English Foundation course should already meet the academic requirements for undergraduate study at a British university.
Entrance Requirements for the Pre-MBA Course
Applicants must have EITHER a conditional offer on the MBA at the University of Abertay Dundee OR an undergraduate degree in a business or management subject OR substantial managerial experience and appropriate qualifications.
The Pre-MSc Course
Applicants must have EITHER a conditional offer of a place on an MSc course in Science or Computing at the University of Abertay Dundee OR an undergraduate degree in science or computing OR relevant experience and appropriate qualifications.
