Intro

This 5 day course consists of two modules (a) Sexual Health Promotion: The aim of this module is to provide the student opportunity to examine the concepts of evidence based sexual health and inequalities among the population. (b) Contraceptive Methods and Family Planning Services: The aim of this module is to provide the student with the opportunity to broaden the acquired knowledge and skill of the principles of reproductive health.

Cost:
Sexual Health/Family Planning Module £350.00 for one module and £550 if undertaking both modules. Subject to a minimum number of participants.

What you study

This short course comprises two core modules as listed below.

  • Sexual Health Promotion: Young People/Special Client Groups
  • Contraceptive Methods and Family Planning Services

These are offered at Level 3 and the University's credit award of 15 SCOTCAT points per module applies.
These are linked modules with a total credit award of 30 SCOTCAT points.

The course offers the flexibility for applicants to take a single module on a stand-alone basis. Alternatively, applicants can opt to take both modules to meet their CPD requirements if they do not wish to take full course of three modules.

Participant Lecturers will include Academic staff, Doctors, Consultants and Nursing staff with appropriate qualifications and expertise.

Potential Applicants
This course would appeal particularly to qualified practitioners of varied backgrounds including:

  • Practitioners involved in Cervical and Reproductive Health Screening but do not have Family Planning Certificate
  • Nurses practicing in various settings e.g. School Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Health Visitors, Public Health Nurses, General Practice Nurses and those practicing in GU Clinics
  • Midwives
  • Gynaecology Nurses and Assisted Conception Nurses

Other Professionals involved with Teenagers and Young Adults and Special Client Groups, such as:

  • Teachers
  • Professionals involved with Youth Clubs
  • Professionals involved with Ethnic Minorities
  • Professionals who work in Physical and/or Mental Disability Institutions and those involved with people with Learning Disabilities might also find this course appealing in meeting their professional roles and responsibilities.

Venue
The theory component of the course is provided at the University of Abertay Dundee.

The current course fee is £350 for one module and £550 if you take both modules.
Date of Next Course: Annually in the third week of March.
