English for Study 2011-2012: Semester 2
Please see below for information on thefree classes available this semester, at a range of levels, to all international students. We’re here to support you while you’re studying at Abertay.
General information for semester 2
Classes begin in week 20 (week beginning January 30th) and will run for 8 weeks. In order for us to offer support to as many students as possible, you may register for up to 4 hours of classes per block. If you attend at least 6 of the 8 classes, you will qualify for an attendance certificate.
Registration
Look at the timetable below and decide which classes you would like to attend and then email us at english@abertay.ac.uk with the classes you have selected. Places will be allocated on a ‘first come-first served’ basis and if the class is already full you will be placed on a waiting list.
Registration opens on Monday 16th January and continues for the rest of that week. Please do NOT send a group email on behalf of your friends as we will only register the person who has sent us the email.

Classes on offer in Semester 2
English for Science
These classes will focus on the types of writing that students are expected to do in their courses in the School of Contemporary Sciences. They are open to both undergraduate and postgraduate students and will run for two hours a week.
English for Business
These classes will focus on the types of writing that students are expected to do in their courses in the Dundee Business School. They are open to both undergraduate and postgraduate students and will run for two hours a week.
English for Computing
These classes will focus on the types of writing that students are expected to do in their courses in the School of Computing and Engineering Systems and the Institute of Arts, Media and Computer Games. They are open to both undergraduate and postgraduate students and will run for two hours a week.
Speaking and Listening
These classes will cover useful skills for seminars and group discussions, as well as providing help with presentation skills, improving your vocabulary and giving advice on how to understand Scottish people! The classes will run for two hours a week.
Grammar
If you would like the opportunity to improve your grammatical accuracy, then these are the classes for you. This class will run for two hours a week.
Pronunciation This class will cover a variety of different aspects of pronunciation:
There will be lots of entertaining practical activities, along with exercises you can do at home. These classes will run for two hours a week.
