Printmaking exhibition opens

29 June 2015

Edition Two exhibition - Catherine Weir

A new exhibition of printmaking has opened at Abertay University’s Hannah Maclure Centre, as part of Print Festival Scotland.

Edition Two is an exhibition featuring over 50 prints created by Dundee Print Collective, which was formed in 2014 as a response to Dundee hosting the Impact 8 International Printmaking Conference and the first Print Festival Scotland in 2013.

It was initiated by a core group of Dundee-based artists, who wanted to promote printmaking as a creative, educational and sociable medium, engaging not only artists but also individuals with no formal art training.

The exhibition marks the start of Print Festival Scotland, a festival which brings together a wide programme of exhibitions, workshops, events and activities in venues throughout Scotland including Dundee Contemporary Arts, Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art and Glasgow Print Studio.

Clare Brennan, Hannah Maclure Centre Curator and Abertay University lecturer, said: “Dundee has a very exciting history of printmaking which has seen a resurgence in the last two years.

“Dundee Print Collective is very active, involving experienced artists, students and lots of passionate people who’ve never tried printing before.

“We’re delighted to be showing a great selection of new work from the collective as part of Print Festival Scotland.”

She added: “All of the works on show are very bold and striking, as Dundee Print Collective set a really tight brief: each print can only feature black, or black and one other colour.

“But setting boundaries on any creative challenge just sparks more ideas and inventiveness, and the prints that have been produced are absolutely stunning.”

The exhibition runs from Monday 29 June to Friday 21 August, 10am-5pm. It is free and open to everyone.

A festival closing party will be held in the Hannah Maclure Centre on Saturday 4 July from 7-10pm, with a night of music and performance presented by Dundee Print Collective and Yuck ‘n Yum.
