International appointments for Abertay business expert

Dr Nazrul Islam

A leading business expert at Abertay University has been appointed to two major international academic positions.

Dr Nazrul Islam is to take over as Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Technology Intelligence and Planning, and also as UK Country Coordinator of the Business and Applied Sciences Academy of North America.

The International Journal of Technology Intelligence and Planning is an international research and practice-based interdisciplinary journal which encompasses all aspects of technology analysis, dealing with quantitative, qualitative or hybrid features of technology research and their impacts.

The Business and Applied Sciences Academy of North America is an interdisciplinary, not-for-profit, professional association of business, sciences and technology. It promotes dissemination of advanced knowledge and skills among scholars and practitioners of business and applied sciences towards resolving the issues and problems of the 21st century.

Dr Islam, Senior Lecturer in Management at Dundee Business School, said: “It’s a great honour to join these two prestigious international organisations and to further develop Abertay University’s international links.

“Business can be a powerful force for positive change in the world, particularly when it brings together experts from other areas and helps deliver new technologies and new ways of working that improve how organisations create new products, services and solutions.”

Professor Gavin Reid, Head of Dundee Business School, said: “Our teaching and research at Dundee Business School focuses on the positive global impacts business can have, and looking to prepare our graduates for careers anywhere in the world.

“Dr Islam deserves high praise for developing an international academic career with a keen focus on bringing multiple academic disciplines together across business, science and technology, addressing the practical challenges the world faces.”

Dr Islam’s research interests include national and sectoral studies of innovation systems focusing on nanotechnology, the management of emerging and disruptive innovations, technology forecasting, research and development collaborations, sustainable energy management, and the development of innovation assessment indicators.

He is also Academic Editor of the British Journal of Applied Science and Technology and an Editorial Board Member of both the Open Journal of Business and Management and Journal of Business Administration and Education.

Dr Islam teaches innovation management and supply chain management on a wide range of Abertay University degrees, including:

  • MProf Food & Drink Innovation (Packaging and Sustainability)
  • MSc International Management
  • MSc International Finance and Accounting
