European business challenge finals for Abertay students
Students from Abertay University are flying to Stuttgart in Germany for the finals of the EBMC European business challenge – Entrepreneurial Brains Made on Campus.
Frances Houston, Kelly Mann, Steve Rennie and Hannah Reyes won a two-day UK heat held in February, beating other Abertay student teams, to win a place in the grand final which is being held from Wednesday 15 to Friday 17 April.
An expert jury picked the winning teams to take part in the finals at Stuttgart City Hall. The Abertay team will compete against teams from Birmingham City University, Linz in Austria, Budapest in Hungary and Stuttgart Media University.
Helen Smith, Associate Director Teaching Innovation and Senior Lecturer in Accounting at Abertay, said: “We’re delighted to be taking another Abertay team to the finals of the EBMC business challenge, a major international contest for finding new entrepreneurial talent from European universities.
“At Abertay University we pride ourselves on giving students practical business experience while they’re studying, either as part of coursework assignments for their modules or through taking part in international business challenges like this.
“We see students develop and mature very quickly through these challenges, applying their degree studies to very immediate, practical problems.
“Having the opportunity to learn how to develop an idea into a real business is very exciting for the students, but will also be a very challenging few days.”
The students will spend the first two days developing their business ideas through directed workshops.
They will then pitch their ideas to a panel of experts from the Stuttgart Economic Development Department, Ministry of Finance and Economics, European Office, nifino, Start-up GmbH and HdM Stuttgart
The finals will be held as part of Generation Media Startup, a practical entrepreneurship conference hosted each year by the Stuttgart Media University.
Abertay’s students are currently all studying either or Business Administration in .
