Prizegiving rewards high-flying students at Abertay2 October 2014
Dozens of students and former students gathered at Abertay University yesterday (Wednesday 1 October) for the first of two annual Prizegiving Ceremonies.
Accompanied by friends and families, the prize-winners were welcomed by Abertay Principal and Vice-Chancellor Professor Nigel Seaton who awarded the prizes.
A total of 28 students were awarded prizes at the first ceremony in the Abertay Student Centre, with a further 26 students receiving awards at the second ceremony tonight.
The awards are sponsored by individuals, local, national and international organisations and Abertay University itself, and include prizes established in memory of former students and prominent members of the community. Many of the organisations and individuals who sponsor individual prizes were also in the audience.
Addressing the prize-winners and their friends and family, Abertay’s Principal and Vice-Chancellor Professor Nigel Seaton said:
"Prizegiving is an important event in the University’s calendar because it honours those who have performed exceptionally well in their studies. On behalf of the University, I warmly congratulate all the prize-winners this evening.
"Many of our prizes and awards are donated by companies and organisations with which the University enjoys links through consultancy work or through other collaborative ventures.
"We value greatly such partnerships, from local employers to national and international businesses and also with professional organisations, and I thank most warmly each of the donors for their support in this way of the University, its purpose, its courses, and especially its students."
At the first ceremony last night prize donor Mark Gallacher from EQ Chartered Accountants addressed the audience of winners, family and friends, with Frances Ratcliffe from the Institution of Civil Engineers speaking at the second ceremony tonight.
