26 September 2014

The Abertay University campus is to be transformed into a living art gallery, from poetry readings in a reconstructed 19th century ship’s bridge to uplifting graffiti.

Curate the Campus invited staff and students at Abertay to showcase their creative talents in any art form – and giving them open access to the university’s buildings.

Other works on display include ‘yarn bombers’ leaving guerrilla knitting around the campus, and a series of photographic portraits showing the diversity of staff at Abertay.

Clare Brennan, curator of Abertay University’s Hannah Maclure Centre, said: “Abertay has a great reputation as a creative university, particularly for computer games and digital art, but we wanted to give all our staff and students an opportunity to showcase all their creative talents.

“We’ve been completely overwhelmed by the number of ideas submitted to Curate the Campus, and the quality is absolutely staggering.

“It’s very exciting to hear from colleagues about their creative passions, and to see how people have really challenged themselves to undertake a major new piece of work for this exhibition.

“For the public, this is a unique opportunity to see inside the hidden corners of Abertay University – and to see familiar spaces completely transformed, as we add in artworks, performances and interactive digital installations.”

The exhibition is free and open to the public until Friday 10 October. The exhibition spaces are open 10am-4pm on weekdays and 12-4pm on weekends.

Curate the Campus will be also feature a special evening of music, readings, song and dance hosted by Abertay Piping and Traditional Music Society on Wednesday 8 October at 7pm.

Tickets are free and can be booked by contacting 01382 308324 or exhibitions@abertay.ac.uk
