Abertay academic compiles world's first language development encyclopaedia

6 August 2014

A new book on the psychology of language development - compiled by an Abertay academic - has just been published.

Professor Vera Kempe - who is Chair of the Psychology of Language Learning here at Abertay - co-edited the Encyclopaedia of Language Development with Professor Patricia J. Brooks of City University of New York.

This is the first time an encyclopaedic reference work on the subject of language development has ever been put together.

With over 250 contributing authors, the encyclopaedia covers everything from the language development milestones that occur during infancy, to the reasons why some people become adept at multiple languages while others face a lifelong struggle with just one.

It contains articles by established names within the field, as well as newly emerging talent, providing a comprehensive round-up of current research, as well as an introduction to new ideas and emerging lines of enquiry.

Published by SAGE, the encyclopaedia is available to buy on Amazon or direct from SAGE
